The Automotive Technical Author position offers the opportunity for those with an automotive background and competency in computer literacy to help clients develop accurate and quality technical publications. Armed with your automotive experience, you will be working with the newest vehicles, diving into databases, and analyzing data to ensure that the clients' technical publications are accurate and easy to understand by the rest of the automotive field. Candidates will need to have an aptitude for automotive technology, data analytics, and look for ways that promote the continuous improvement mentality. Because Automotive Technical Authors often interface directly with the client, there will be a need for the candidate to be able to display exemplary customer service skills in a professional office setting & vehicle lab environment.
About the Job:
Automotive Technical Author will be responsible for authoring finished documents & publications of vehicle services for publication in client deliverables
Automotive Technical Author will also be responsible for validation of supplied automotive service documents and capture opportunities to identify errors, suggest error corrections, enhance the quality and clarity of publications, and submit error details to client
Automotive Technical Author will manage new & current documents in a document/change control database
Support the Technician Lead(ers) in completing vehicle projects
Ensure accurate and proper reporting on vehicle project progress to leadership
Automotive Technical Author position is responsible for resolving customer concerns related to automotive service publications for an OEM
Automotive Technical Author has a responsibility to apply automotive knowledge and utilize multiple client supplied files in order to identify appropriate content in publications
Automotive Technical Author is responsible for the effective use of database tools to ensure that a publication is accurate, published timely, and of good quality
Automotive Technical Author position is also responsible for interacting with the client, internal and external authoring teams, on-site validation teams, and other regional team members around the globe to produce publications
Automotive Technical Author may at times be responsible for answering dealer feedback as assigned by the LT PTR Coordinator
Support Operations Leadership in a variety of ways over a variety of unique assignments
Perform any other duties &/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis
Fill out all company documents such as timesheets, job tracking logs, job note databases, gathers/records information from project and logs accurately
Lastly, the Automotive Technical Author will be responsible for effective communication with Leadership and support of Leadership responsibilities
About You:

years of similar work experience, prefer to include experience with data base functionality
5
years' experience in an automotive repair facility
Previous experience with GM vehicle service and service information preferred
Working knowledge of the automotive specialty service tools, service equipment, and shop safety
Individual must possess good PC skills, strong typed/written and oral communication with the ability to communicate clearly
Have a high level of software skills; especially MS Excel (or equivalent)
Database knowledge and skills with the ability to create reports and run queries is a plus (MS Access preferred)
Be able to work in an office setting and (when necessary) work within a repair facility environment
Willing to take ownership of the information and continuously look for improvement, plan ahead & suggest solutions, and work with minimal supervision
Well organized and possess great attention to detail
Positive attitude toward change & inevitable mid-project course corrections
Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment, individually, and in team environments equally and efficiently
Possess a willingness to learn and ability to be mentored
Education Requirements:
4 year degree or equivalent work experience, including at least one ASE or two State of Michigan automotive repair certifications or equivalent industry experience
